For those of us at Mirage Landscaping, snow removal is more than just an occupation. We consider our job to be keeping you and your property safe, and we take it very seriously. In fact, wherever we are working, we keep an eye out for anything with which we can assist. We have the equipment, tools, and the manpower to help, and we love to do so. In fact, just recently we were able to save a neighbourhood dog from a coyote attack and keep him comfortable at our offices until his owner was found.
As a full-service property maintenance company operating year-round, we offer commercial and residential snow removal services in the winter and landscape maintenance, landscape construction, and landscape design services in the summer. We do the heavy lifting for you, so you don’t have to.
Use your time for other things
Snow rarely falls at a time that is convenient, and City of Calgary bylaws often do not take into account that people have to work and take care of their families. Bylaws stipulate snow must be removed to a minimum width of 1.5 metres from public sidewalks bordering a property within 24 hours of a snowfall ending. Quite often in Calgary that means you have to get up early before work to get it done, or have to rush home afterwards. Forget all about it and let us take care of it. We’re out as soon as possible after a snowfall, often working through the night, and we always have our properties cleaned up well before the 24-hour deadline.
Communications is key to client relations. We ask our snow removal clients where they would prefer their snow to be piled, what they see their trouble spots as, and adhere to all bylaws requiring snow removed from private pathways and driveways be piled on that property. Only snow removed from public walkways can be piled on the road. Commercial snow removal requires that a lot of snow be piled in parking lots, and it’s easy to get this wrong without a discussion with the property owner. There is often a preference for where commercial property owners would like their snow piled, as they know best what is the least disruptive for their customers and clients, and we can also provide suggestions using our expertise, such as piling near to a gutter or drain.
Reduce your chances of liability
If someone were to slip and fall and injure themselves on your property, you could be held liable. This comes as both a major hit to pocketbooks and reputations for residential and commercial property owners. You are at risk of being sued if someone trips, slips or falls when:
- Your property is unsafe, such as there is icy pavement and wet floors.
- There are hazardous conditions that could have been repaired, such as cracks in your pathways.
- You fail to post warning signs advising of any known hazards.
- The accident could have been avoided if you had taken precautions.
- You fail to have written inspection and maintenance procedures in place.
Snow removal services save you from injuries
Shoveling isn’t easy. It requires a person to be in good physical health, and even then, injuries are common. The most common injuries are broken bones from falls, back injuries from improper lifting techniques, and heart attacks from over-exertion. Those over the age of 55 are four times more likely to suffer a heart attack while shoveling.
Our staff is trained on the best way to use our equipment to save themselves from injury. It’s what we do, and we know how to do it properly.
Don’t forget to drive safely
It’s worth a reminder that City of Calgary street snow removal services do not include plowing residential roads down to the bare pavement. The Seven Day Snow Plan lays out daily priorities, which focus on major routes such as such as Crowchild Trail, Memorial Drive, Macleod Trail, and so on. After those are cleared, it’s on to the roads that see from 5,000 to 19,999 vehicles on them every day. Examples include Kensington Road and Acadia Drive. In addition, the City will tackle intersections and crosswalks where there are traffic lights, emergency routes around hospitals and fire stations, bus routes, roads with bike lanes, and trouble spots.
For the most part, Calgarians who live on residential streets without a great deal of traffic will not see a plow for the entirety of the winter. That means it’s more important than ever to be very careful on the roads. When darkness falls so early it’s much more difficult to spot potential hazards. We suggest a complete change in mindset when it comes to winter driving, which involves thinking of others before you think of yourself. We at Mirage consider ourselves responsible for the safety of others. As we are stewards of your property, we are also stewards of the road. Leave early, drive safely, and set an example for others on the road.
